What I'm Thankful For

It's often the anticipation of the day that gets one. There have been a lot of big changes this year.

There was the auto accident, where we had a tire blow out on the freeway. While the auto was damaged in that nasty spill, we all lived. I got a small scar on my wrist, and a minor dent in my head, with blood really messing up my head. I also had a severe pain in my back, for some time thereafter. The wife, who has a lot of other health issues, had those inflamed. Blessedly, the boy just had a bunch of clothes fall on him, and while it scared him, the window that got messed over didn't hurt him.

Transitioning between living situations is always stressful, but at least things are, at least directly for us, more calm. It may not be exactly on my terms, being in an apartment, but it's better than prior, where people blew up the electric bill, contributed nothing, and caused stress beyond words. So, being out of there is something to be thankful for.

Also, helping recently released felons is something new. I won't go into specifics, as some people have very heated opinions about the matter. Some feel that some felons should all be given the death penalty, whilst others don't think they should ever be released. This is another reason I'm a strong supporter of The Second Amendment. If a criminal commits a crime, and The People are armed to defend themselves from the aggressors, and the criminals die, then it's meant to be. If they don't die, then it's time for them to do their time, maybe sincerely find God, repent, and do what they can, to make the world a better part. God tells us that "vengeance is His," and that if "we want God to forgive us our sins, we must be willing to forgive others their sins." I won't pretend to say I understand the victims of felons, saying they must forgive, no matter what. Verily, I can't say that I would be willing to forgive some who wronged me, based on what and how they wronged me. I'm not one to like to waste a lot of time on "what ifs." Whatever will be, will be. A fave meme on FB has an ECU of a gun barrel, with the caption "The locked door isn't for my protection, but yours." Another is "This house doesn't call 911," depicting various types of firearms for home defense.

I'm thankful for the family I have, and that, for now, we have a constitution that tells our government we have that right to protect our families from those who don't care as much about such blessings.
