On October 2, 1955, the ENIAC computer, one of the first general-purpose computers, was officially retired, marking the end of an era in computing history. Developed during World War II, ENIAC (Electronic Numerical Integrator and Computer) was a groundbreaking machine that revolutionized the way calculations were performed, paving the way for future advancements in technology. With its massive size and complex circuitry, ENIAC was capable of performing thousands of calculations per second, a feat that was unprecedented at the time. Its retirement signified not only the conclusion of its operational life but also the transition to more advanced computing technologies that would soon emerge, setting the stage for the digital age that followed.
