I wonder how many kids, on their birthday, have a cousin being born on their birthday. That was the "surprise" our little boy had, for his 3rd birthday, and it was really...interesting.
We got a call from my wife's grandma. Her younger sister (the 2nd oldest) had her water break, and she wanted her big sister to be there with her, during that endeavor.
So, we left Washington, and drove over to Idaho. Got a little lost trying to find the maternity section, along with the fun of construction. Then, when we got there, we find out that because our boy isn't direct family (sibling), he can't go back. But everyone else can. Supposedly due to "flu season," but what if anyone else, including siblings, recently had some illness?
So, from about 5PM, until 1:01 AM, I had to mind the now 3 year old, solo. The grandparents had also shown up, at the husband's request. I had a light snack with him, as well.
Without a doubt, the biggest challenge was working with a kid no quite potty trained! The worse being when he soiled himself. I didn't want to drag all of our stuff to the bathroom, other than what I thought was the changing bag. Turns out I grabbed the wrong one, so had to leave him there, with the door swinging open as I didn't shut it right, and march across the entire lobby, get the right bag, and go back in. Just about midnight, I though I'd run out of clothes for him, so that had me stressed, and I couldn't raise anyone, initially. Took maybe 30 minutes for the wife to come out, and provide the last pair.
I also got to see a lot of new Disney shows (on one of the channels...IDK how many there are, now). Honestly, I don't have a lot of interest in these programs. By comparison, I think a lot of the programs are really dumbed down, compared to shows in the 80s, and early 90s. I can't quite place it, but it seems to be reflective, or maybe influencing, the modern "me movement," where everyone seems to want everything for themselves, instead of caring about their fellow man. Tragic.
I don't recall the exact specifics, but I think the baby was born 2-3 weeks premature. Wife had mentioned that there was a few times, prior, that the baby was looking to come into the world, and they had to stop the kid from being really premature. I'm just glad the baby and mom--along with dad!--are doing ok, all-in-all!
