Dakota Access Pipelines

The Dakota Pipeline reminds me of the issues over KeyStone XL pipeline. The XL project would virtually split the US in 2. I'm not even clear on the pipelines going from Canada to the US. How does that work for people who want to drive cross-country? Why does it need to go all the way to Texas, as opposed to say North Dakota. Why does it need to be so dangerously close to Ogallala Aquifer?

Here is a pipeline spill/burst in Texas, and in Arkansas. But nothing to see here. Don't worry about how one of the biggest Aquifers that supply much needed water are at risk for being poisoned, and possibly beyond repair, for who knows how long. I don't know if Dakota would be on the same level of a disaster, but then, just like the above two links, at the very least, it's harmful to those who become victims. Often, the companies responsible are held harmless, or like BP, they get to write it off as a loss, come tax time.
